Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:0912408/IV (b)/1> where n is 6 or 7 and the hydrochlorides thereof. The compounds are N-cycloheptyl-, and N-cyclooctyl-N-bis-(b -chloroethyl)-amines and are prepared by reacting the corresponding cycloaliphatic bis-(b -hydroxyethyl)-amines with phosphorus chloride, phosphorus oxychlorides, thionyl chloride or hydrochloric acid in an inert solvent at 30 DEG to 90 DEG C. Examples are given.ALSO:Herbicidal compositions comprise compounds of formula <FORM:0912408/VI/1> where n is 6 or 7 and the hydrochlorides thereof. The compounds are N-cycloheptyl-, and N-cyclo-octyl - N - bis - (b - chloroethyl) - amines, and may be used as aqueous solutions or dispersions, e.g. in amounts of 0.1 to 5% by weight of water, or mixed with dry inert carriers, or with fertilizers or other herbicides. The compounds destroy dicotyledonous plants but leave monocotyledonous plants undamaged. Examples are given.
