Abstract
<FORM:0824345/IV (b)/1> Compounds of the general formula in which R1 is a hydrogen atom or an aliphatic acyl radical containing 1-5 carbon atoms, R2 and R3 are nitro groups, fluorine, chlorine or bromine atoms, at least one of these being a halogen atom and the substituents R4 which may be the same or different are hydrogen atoms or alkyl or alkoxy radicals containing 1-5 carbon atoms or nitro groups, at least one R4 being a nitro group, are prepared by reacting the corresponding substituted salicylic acid or a derivative thereof with aniline or its derivatives. In an example, 5,21-dichloro-41-nitro-salicylanilide is prepared by reacting 5-chloro-salicylic acid and 2-chloro-4-nitro aniline. Analogously 5,21,5 - trichloro - 41 - nitro - salicyl - anilide, 5,41-dichloro-2-nitro-salicyl-anilide and 5,21,51-trichloro - 3 - methyl - 41 - nitro - salicyl - anilide can be obtained. Other specified compounds are 5-chloro-41-nitrosalicylanilide; 5-nitro-41-chlorosalicylanilide; 5,31,51 - trichloro - 21 - nitrosalicylanilide; 5,21,51 - trichloro - 41 - nitrosalicylanilide; 5,21,51 - trichloro - 3 - methyl - 41 - nitrosalicylanilide; 5,51 - dichloro - 21 - methyl - 41 - nitrosalicylanilide; 5,31 - dichloro - 41 - nitrosalicylanilide; 5,21,51 - trichloro - 3,41 - dinitrosalicylanilide; 5,21,31,61 - tetrachloro 41 - nitrosalicylanilide; 5,41,61 - trichloro - 21 - nitrosalicylanilide; 5-bromo-21,51-dichloro-41-nitrosalicylanilide; 5,21,51 - trichloro - 41 - nitro - 2 - acetoxybenzanilide; 5,41 - dichloro - 31 - nitro - 2 - acetoxybenzanilide; 5,21,51 - trichloro - 3 - methyl - 41 - nitro - 2 - acetoxybenzanilide; 5,21,61 - trichloro - 41 - nitrosalicyl anilide; 3,5,21,51 - tetrachloro - 41 - nitrosalicylanilide; 5,41 - dichloro - 2 - nitrosalicylanilide. Specifications 727,343 and 728,098 are referred to.ALSO:A molluscicidal composition consists essentially of a 2-hydroxy-benzoicanilide derivative of the formula <FORM:0824345/VI/1> in which R1 is hydrogen atom or an aliphatic acyl radical containing 1-5 carbon atoms, R2 and R3 are nitro groups, fluorine, chlorine or bromine atoms, at least one of these being a halogen atom and the substituents R4 which may be the same or different are hydrogen atoms or alkyl, or alkoxy radicals containing 1-5 carbon atoms or nitro groups at least one R4 being a nitro group, and an inert carrier or water containing an emulsifier. Pesticides, insecticides, fungicides, weed killers and fertilizers may also be incorporated. Specified active ingredients are: 5-chloro-41-nitrosalicylanilide; 5,21 - dichloro - 41 - nitrosalicylanilide; 5-nitro - 41 - chlorosalicylanilide; 5,3151 - tri-chloro - 21 - nitrosalicylanilide; 5,21,51 - tri-chloro - 41 - nitrosalicylanilide; 5,21,51 - tri-chloro - 3 - methyl - 41 - nitrosalicylanilide; 5,51 - dichloro - 21 - methyl - 41 - nitrosalicylanilide; 5,31 - dichloro - 41 - nitrosalicylanilide; 5,21,51 - trichloro - 31,41 - dinitrosalicylanilide; 5,21,31,61 - tetrachloro - 41 - nitrosalicylanilide; 5,41,61 - trichloro - 21 - nitrosalicylanilide; 5-bromo - 21,51 - dichloro - 41 - nitrosalicylanilide; 5,31,51 - trichloro - 2 - acetoxybenzanilide; 5,21,51 - trichloro - 41 - nitro - 2 - acetoxybenzanilide; 5,41 - dichloro - 31 - nitro - 2 - acetoxybenzanilide; 5,21,51 - trichloro - 3 - methyl - 41-nitro - 2 - acetoxybenzanilide; 5,21,61 - trichloro - 41 - nitrosalicylanilide; 3,5,21,51 - tetrachloro - 41 - nitrosalicylanilide; 5,41 - dichloro-2-nitrosalicylanilide.
