Abstract

911,370. Locking threadless bolts; cotters. PRICE CORPORATION, D. W. Dec. 31, 1958 [Jan. 6, 1958], No. 42153/58. Classes 89 (1) and 89 (2). [Also in Group XXVI] A bolt-like pin, e.g. for securing a turbine blade 38, Fig. 3, to a rotor 40 comprises a shank 30, Fig. 1, with a head 36 at one end and a bore 32 receiving a shaft 10 carrying one or more balls 16 in radial holes and held therein by necks 26 at the hole ends. Bore 32 is enlarged at the head end of the pin to form a shoulder 60 against which the balls are caused to abut by a spring- pressed plunger 20 slidable within shaft 10. The surface 35 of the enlarged bore limits outward movement of the balls. The shaft is releasable from the pin by a tool 52 which is used to move plunger 20 against its spring until the relieved part 25 lies under the balls. The shaft has a head 12, and the blade &c. is held between heads 12 and 36. In a modification, the shank 30 may consist of a short sleeve engaging the end of shaft 10 to constitute a head remote from head 12.
