Abstract

1,097,128. Shaft couplings. ATLAS COPCO AKTIEBOLAG. May 24, 1966 [June 3, 1965], No. 23138/66. Heading F2U. The anvil 10 of an impact wrench has a polygonal, preferably square end 11 fitting in a socket wrench 12 and secured axially by a spring wire retainer 14 of hair-pin shape having its legs frictionally engaged in bores 18 at the tip of the square end, a middle portion 19 received in a groove in the end, and a locking hook 17 releasably co-operating with a radial bore 13 in the socket. In a modification the hook 17 is replaced by a hump in the portion 19. In another embodiment the retainer is a spring strip having a humped portion engaging the bore 13 and a transverse portion which is curved to frictionally engage a dove-tail groove provided in the end face of the square end 11.
