Abstract
911,231. Furniture joints. WILLIAMS & GRAY Ltd. April 16, 1959 [April 16, 1958], No. 12104/58. Class 52 (2). A connecting member in the form of a hollow spigot is internally flared to provide a conical socket and externally tapered so that it can enter and secure a hollow metal leg or, alternatively, seat a tapered spigot attached to a solid wooden leg in the conical socket. As shown, a die cast connecting member 11 is screwed to a table top 14 and a tapered cast metal plug 28, having the head of a screw 29 embedded in it, is secured to wooden leg 27. A ball catch 26 co-operates with hole 25 and a longitudinal rib on the plug (Fig. 4, not shown) engages with a groove formed in member 11. Alternatively, leg 27 may be replaced by a tapered hollow metal leg (Fig. 1, not shown) secured by a ball catch in hole 21.
