Abstract

910,840. Two-part couplings. UNITEDCARR FASTENER CORPORATION. Jan. 19, 1960 [Feb. 18, 1959], No. 1926/60. Class 38 (1). Each contact of a socket connector for a printed circuit panel 11 comprises a pair of elements 17a mounted within a cavity 18 which includes T-shaped recesses 22a, defined by ribs 23a, provided between adjacent cavities 18. The contact elements 17a have tails 24a which pass through slots 21a in the bottom wall of each cavity and which are preferably twisted to prevent upward movement of the elements. The spring legs 26a of the elements are wider than the tails and abut the bottom wall of the cavity to limit downward movement of the contact elements. Each element has a point of flexure 29a and a further point of flexure 30a. Upon initial insertion of the panel 11 into the connector, little force is required to deflect the contact elements to the position shown in Fig. 5. Insertion of the panel is completed when it engages a stop 19 which also limits the inward movement of the contact elements when there is no panel in the connector. The force required to complete the insertion of the panel is greater than that required for the initial deflection of the elements.
