Abstract

1,171,622. Edge connectors for printed circuit boards. BELLING & LEE Ltd. 14 April, 1967 [15 April, 1966], No. 16581/66. Heading H2E. In an edge connector body 1 contact-housing recesses 5 communicate with a central panelreceiving slot 2 through narrow slots 3 each contact having a portion 8 projecting into the central slot 2 through a slot 3, and having portions 7 which engage shoulders in a recess 5. Each contact comprises a resilient strip with two parallel slits near its upper end defining outer portions 7 and a central strip which is expanded to form a panel-engaging loop 8. A retaining aperture on the contact strip engages a projection 10 on the body 1, and a rigid terminal post 6 secured to the contact strip receives a wrapped connection. In modifications of the contact (Figs. 6, 7, 11, 12, not shown) the retaining aperture is replaced by a resilient locking lance (15) and the terminal portion 6 is integral with the contact strip. The terminal portion may be channelshaped with a struck-out tongue (13) engaging a shoulder on the body 1, or the strip may be folded double to form a terminal loop portion (6-6a). Insulating polarizing pegs may be located in some of the slots 3.
