Abstract
910,415. Delivery arrangements for hot-water supply systems. MAIN WATER HEATERS Ltd. Dec. 30, 1959 [June 1, 1959], No. 18619/59. Class 64 (1). [Also in Groups I and XXIX] A pipe 17, 18, 24 supplying warm water, e.g. to a shower 12, has, in one part 18, a temperature-sensing pilot bulb (not shown), communicating by a tube 26 with a bellows in a casing 20 so that, if the water gets too hot, an adjustably spring-loaded valve (see Group XXIX) is opened by the expansion of the bellows and the water flows to a waste pipe 23 instead of to the shower 12. The warm water is a mixture of hot water (from a thermostatically-controlled instantaneous water heater 10 and delivered through a pipe 16 which may include hot supply taps 11) and cold water (from a by-pass, including a cock 25, from the pipe 13 which supplies cold water through a throttle valve 14 to the heater 10). To cool the warm water, so that it is not passed to waste by the thermally-controlled valve in the casing 20, the cold water by-pass valve 25 is opened by the shower occupant or by response of the pilot bulb in the pipe 18. Alternatively, the response of the bulb may actuate the throttle valve 14 or control the flow of hot water into the pipe 16 or actuate the heater. The temperature-responsive element may be of the forms described in Specifications 825,746, 827,146 and 844,015.
