Abstract

910,311. Processing skins. BOOTH, H. Jan. 19, 1959, No. 1941/59. Class 76. After de-wooling, skins, particularly of sheep, are treated by subjection to substantial mechanical movement, e.g. by paddling, in an alkaline solution of a water-soluble sulphide, the pH being maintained at a value of between 12 and 13 and the concentration of sulphide (preferably sodium sulphide) being from 0.025 to 0.25 normal. A preferred reagent is a sodium sulphide to solution of normality between 0.1 to 0.15 adjusted to a pH of 12.0 (at 18- 20‹ C.) with caustic soda. Specification 828,686 is referred to.
