Abstract

Gold is recovered from aqueous solutions or suspensions by bringing the solution or suspension into contact with a cellulose ether, the resulting insoluble product containing gold and cellulose substance being separated and decomposed to isolate the gold. Ethyl cellulose ether as an insoluble powder may be dispersed in the gold solution, or mixed with cellulose it may form a filter-pad through which the gold solution is passed. The solution may be acidified before treatment with the cellulose ether.
