909,756. Measuring displacement electrically. FERRANTI Ltd. Jan. 26, 1961 [Feb. 4, 1960], No. 3949/60. Class 40 (1). A pick-off for measuring angular displacement comprising an E-type transformer 11 Fig. 1) and an armature 23 rotatable on a wheel 24, has the outer pole-faces 17, 18 extended laterally in opposite directions 17A, 18A (Fig. 2) and are associated with auxiliary armatures 31, 32 also mounted on the wheel 24, so that when the main armature 23 is sufficiently displaced from the transformer 11 to have no effect on the reluctance of the magnetic circuits, the auxiliary armatures 31, 32 produce the required unbalance. The pick-off is used in a system where the signal developed in windings 12<SP>1</SP>, 13<SP>1</SP>, 14<SP>1</SP> is to be eliminated by movement of the armature assembly back to its datum position.
