Abstract
909,458. Moulds. BELTRAMI, C. Feb. 24, 1959 [Feb. 24, 1958], No. 6429/59. Class 83 (1). Channels for casting molten steel into ingot moulds consist in part at least of refractory laminµ 1 arranged edgeways relatively to the surface upon which the molten steel flows. The laminµ may be of a non-metallic refractory such as graphite, magnesite, chromite, sillimanite, or of steel, stainless steel, cast iron, &c., coated on both faces with a refractory such as alumina, magnesite, clay, chromite, graphite, cement, carborundum, oxides or minerals of zirconium, magnesium, or mixtures thereof, with or without the addition of binders such as silicates, molasses, or sulphite pitch. Alternatively, metallic and non-metallic laminae may be used together. The laminµ may be perforated or corrugated. In one example, Fig. 12, coated metal laminµ 1 are clamped between end plates by bolts 3 and welded along edges 13. In another embodiment, Fig. 20, coverpiece 21 is held in position on the lower piece 20 by metal key 22. Many other examples are shown.
