Abstract
1399890 Blast furnace wear elements CARBORUNDUM CO 22 Dec 1972 [3 Jan 1972] 59499/72 Heading F4B The stockline zone of a blast furnace comprises bix castings 16 attached to the shell 12 by bolts 20 and formed with vertical ribs 21 engaging slots 91 in wear elements 17 cast around refractory blocks spaced at distances of ¢-¥ inch. The castings 16 rest on triangular castings 22 also bolted to the shell 12. Suitable metal for all the castings is a ductile heat resistant rion or steel and the refractory blocks 18 are made of bonded or fused alumina, bonded silicon carbide, bonded aluminium silicate or fused cast mixtures of alumina, zirconia and silica. During casting the refractory block is protected by a casting or boron nitride, a paste of aluminium silicate cement or aluminium silicate paper with a thickness of <SP>3</SP>/ 32 - <SP>5</SP>/ 32 inch.
