Abstract
1430573 Continuous casting DAVY INTERNATIONAL Ltd 19 April 1973 [21 April 1972] 18550/72 Addition to 1426866 Heading B3F A graphite feed tube 7 with an end projecting part-way along the cavity of a continuous casting mould 9, e.g. of copper, and engaging in good heat transfer relationship with the mould wall, as in the parent Specification, has its wall from its inlet end and extending part-way along the tube protected from contact by molten metal by a layer 12, e.g. a sleeve of SiN, SiC sillimanite (an aluminium silicate). As shown, the sleeve 12 has a reduced end to fit into the graphite tube 7 so that the end face of the latter is covered; and a cemented frustoconical; fireclay body 5 secures the sleeve to refractory lining bricks 3 of a tundish 1. The material of sleeve 14 has a greater resistance to chemical erosion by molten metal than has graphite.
