Abstract
857,377. Mould-and-core materials. MOND NICKEL CO. Ltd. Oct. 8, 1959 [Oct. 27, 1958], No. 34170/58. Class 83 (1). A lining for an ingot-mould comprises a smooth gas-permeable-facing of refractory powder of particle size less than 250 microns, bonded to a backing of fibrous glassy material and containing from 15 to 40% voids by volume, The refractory may be zircon, magnesia. alumina, clays such as kaolin or china clay, sillimanite, topaz, ganister, magnesite, olivine, chromite, and zirconia, and may be bound with bentonite, sodium-silicate or a phenolic resin, in water or alcohol. The backing may be fibre-glass, asbestos or rock-wool, or fibrous blast-furnace slag.
