817,646. Mould and core materials. MOND NICKEL CO. Oct. 11, 1955 [Oct. 12, 1954], No. 28961/55. Class 83 (1). [Also in Group XXIII] A metal ingot-mould is lined by a flexible sleeve of fibrous glass or the like which fuses at least partially when the molten metal comes into contact with it. Preferably the lower end of the sleeve covers the bottom of the mould. The sleeve is backed by a coating of inorganic refractory such as zircon, magnesia, alumina, clays such as kaolin or china clay, sillimanite, topaz, ganister; magnesite, olivine, chromite or zirconia. In one example a glass-fibre-mat #-inch thick is formed into a sleeve and the free ends united by sodium silicate. It is then coated with a slurry of powdered zircon in a phenolic resin solution binder. A wrapping of glass or like fibre between the mould and the backing may also be supplied.
