Abstract
909,427. Inking-apparatus. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG A.G. June 3, 1960 [June 6, 1959], No. 19719/60. Class 100 (2). [Also in Group XXIX] An ink nozzle for a pump-type inking mechanism includes a bore from which ink is applied with the assistance of air, a coaxial annular airguiding aperture surrounding said bore and leading from a conical annular chamber connected to an air-conducting duct, a plurality of air guiding bores around said aperture and leading from said chamber, and an annular collar projecting beyond the nozzle mouth and having a frusto-conical inner surface, ink being drawn in a thread-like helical stream over the surface of a diverging conical air stream issuing from said aperture, the ink being confined to the surface of the air stream by further air issuing from the guiding bore. The nozzle comprises a body 1 with a bore 2 having a conical part 3 and an ink outlet bore 4. An insert element 5 comprises a central annular aperture 6 and a plurality of axially parallel bores 7, and the body and insert are recessed to provide a conical annular chamber 8 connected through a plurality of ports 9 to an air-conducting duct 10. A needle 11 is provided to clean the nozzle mouth. The arrangement produces a diverging conical air stream which delivers the ink in a helical thread-like stream 13. The air is delivered at a pressure of 100 mm. Hg. An air curtain 14 from the bore 7 prevents the ink from breaking away from the stream, and the curtain is prevented from spreading by a rim 15 of the element 5.
