Weft thread 30 passing from a guide eye 31 round a fixed post 21 to the fabric is engaged by a shoulder 25 on a continuously-rotating sleeve 23 and wrapped round a fixed abutment 22 and round the periphery of the sleeve until a run 30A is deposited in the hook of the weft inserting needle 27 ; the needle then retracts, pulling the weft off the sleeve and off the abutment 22, whereby a measured length of slack weft is made available for drawing into the shed.
