Abstract
681,433. Shuttleless looms. BALLBER, M. July 13, 1949 [July 16, 1948], No. 18522/49. Class 142(ii) Weft inserters; positioning weft in shed, Fig. 17. Weft inserters 25, attached to tapes operated by oscillating sectors, one at each end of the loom, have a horizontal slot in the end to receive a selected weft T and a longer vertical slot to receive a pin 27 which penetrates the warp sheet near the selvedge, when the inserter has completed its travel to hold the weft loop while the inserter withdraws from the shed. Weft pattern mechanisms, Fig. 1. A pattern chain 12 is swung towards a row of plungers 13 by an oscillating, lever 10, causing one of the plungers to move a member 14, whereby a lever 15 carrying an eyelet 17a depresses a weft thread T into the path of the weft inserter. At the same time, the member 14 depresses a lever 21 to release a thread clamp 7 and bring the eyes of tensioning wires 3, 4 into line with fixed guides 5, thereby allowing the weft to run freely into the shed; the lever 21 is held down by a hook 18 engaging a catch 19 until the weft inserter has completed its stroke, when the catch is disengaged to allow the clamp 7 to grip the weft and the wires 3, 4 to pull the inserted weft taut around the weft holder 27, Fig. 17. Weft clamps, Fig. 4. Each weft clamp 7 comprises a plunger 6 having a hole 8 which comes into line with holes 9 when the plunger is depressed, the weft T then running freely through the holes; in the position shown, the weft is clamped between the periphery of the plunger and the bore of the casing. The plunger is operated (by one of the levers 21, Fig. 1) through a give-way device comprising spring-loaded balls 23 engaging the interior of a tubular link 22 to enable the lever 21 to continue moving after the plunger 6 has reached the end of its stroke.
