Abstract

1352332 Sample weaving looms WOOL INDUSTRIES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 30 April 1971 [3 Feb 1970] 5002/70 Headings DIE and DIM In a loom for weaving squares of fabric as samples, a rapier 44 is reciprocated along a path 14 to draw successive yarns from a package supply through healds 12 and reed 13 arranged on a frame 11, the frame 11 being traversed transverse to the path 14 in the direction A to produce a warp sheet and the frame 11 is then rotated through an angle e.g. 90‹ relative to the rapier and supply package so that the rapier can act as a weft inserter and draw wefts from the same supply package. Four supply packages (21-24) Fig. 3 (not shown) are used any one of which may be moved at a time under the control of a patterning device to present yarn to the rapier. Presenting weft Fig. 5. When the rapier reaches to opposite side of the frame where the yarn is held transversely to its path by pneumatic piston operated grippers 33, arms 36, 37 on a piston operated pivotable arm 38 are moved towards the yarn to push it into spring loaded hook jaw 45 of the rapier. As the rapier retracts, grippers 33 release the yarn end and the yarn runs through guide eye 31 and the jaws of piston operated scissors 42. When the rapier reaches the other side of the frame, the grippers 33 move, under the control of piston 35 to grip the yarn between guide 31 and scissors 42 which then operate to cut the yarn, grippers 53 thereafter moving back to their original position. The same apparatus and procedure is used both when the rapier is forming the warp sheet and inserting weft. When the rapier reaches the opposite side of the frame a wedge member (61) descends and raises spring loaded jaw member 53 to release the yarn. Tensioning yarns. The side members (91, 92) Fig. 9 (not shown) of the frame 11 are coated with adhesive and as the rapier lays the yarn across them piston operated bars (93, 94) descend to press the yarns against them. Threading healds and reeds. Healds are taken individually from a row 74 by a rotating member 70 with a progressively widening thread 71 which moves the healds transversely and rotates them through 90‹ to a position 75 where they are aligned with the rapier 44 which is of such a shape as to be able to pass through the heald eyes 76. The reed 190 is mounted on rollers (191-197) Fig. 10 (not shown) so as to be movable transversely of the sley to align successive dents with the rapier. Beating-up. The sley (199) is oscillated by means of a reciprocating pneumatic cylinder (203). Shedding. Heald frames are guided by cords 83 running over pulleys 81, 82 and operated by a pneumatic cylinder 84 controlled by a punched tape device.
