909,297. Fire irons. CUDDON,R. J. March 17, 1959 [Jan. 1, 1958], No. 102/58. Class 126. [Also in Group XXIII] The handle of a fire iron comprises a removable sleeve mounted on the shaft of the fire iron, or on a rod projecting therefrom and means for holding the sleeve in position comprising a protective stud-shaped cap, screw-threaded to engage the internally threaded end of the shaft or rod. As shown, Fig. 2, a ceramic sleeve 5 is slid on to a rod 4, screwed at 2 to the shaft 1 of a shovel, to abut against a ferrule 3 also screwed on to the shaft 1 and is held in position by a stud 6 screwed into the rod 4. A protective rubber or like sleeve 7 may be mounted on the shaft below the handle. In an alternative embodiment (not shown), the sleeve is slid directly on to the shaft 1 and abuts against a ferrule which is held in position by a circlip located in an annular recess in the shaft which engages in a similar recess in the ferrule.
