Abstract

908,985. Door frames. SCHLEGEL, W. Feb. 9, 1961 [March 23, 1960], No. 4778/61. Class 20 (3). A door &c. frame comprises components 2<SP>1</SP> forming architraves surrounding the marginal edge surfaces of the door aperture and are braced together with the wall 1 clamped between the components with resilient soundproofing inserts 3 interposed between the components 2<SP>1</SP> and the wall. The embodiment shown in Fig. 4 comprises wooden architraves 15, 15<SP>1</SP> carrying clamping sockets 4 having right and left hand screw threads 8 respectively to receive the corresponding ends of a turnbuckle 9 to clamp the architraves 15, together with the cover plate 14 inserted in position with one edge fixed in a groove in one member 15<SP>1</SP> and slidably adjustable in the other member 15 and sealing strips 3 of bitumen impregnated foam are interposed between the architraves and the wall plaster 1<SP>1</SP>. The rebate in the frame is formed by a jamb 16 of resilient material secured to the frame and has a series of spaced ribs 17 for contact with the door. The end 18 of the jamb 16 projects slightly beyond the member 15 and is also formed with ribs to contact rebated parts 19 of the door 22, and the jamb is secured by a rib 21 in a groove in the member 15. The turnbuckle may be replaced by a wedge clamping device, described in connection with hollow metal architraves having in the hollow sections reinforcements with inturned webs with bevelled wedge-like edges for clamping engagement by a complementary shaped wedge-like gripper.
