  • This invention relates to window constructions and is particularly concerned with improvements in a window of the fixed sash type which is adapted to be installed in an opening in a wall of masonry, stone or similar construction.
  • It is a more specific object of the invention to provide a window construction which comprises a metal frame having an inwardly opening glazing channel for receiving a glass pane and fastening elements for securing the frame in leakproof relation in an opening of fixed dimensions in a stone or masonry wall and cooperating fastening elements for clamping the glass pane in the glazing channel with the marginal edges of the pane seated in a compressible glazing strip and with the glazing strip compressed so as to permanently seal the pane in the glazing channel.

  • the clamping element 143 has two plate-like portions 144 and 145 which are in parallel offset planes and connected by a relatively narrow web portion 146, with the one plate portion 144 having a length somewhat less than the length of the U-shaped portion of the fastener element 127 and being adapted to be seated in the pocket forming middle portion of the upwardly opening slot in the element 127 so as to engage the other plate portion 145 with the vertical face 142 of the glazing strip 141 and leaving the ends 137, 138 of the slot open for cooperation with the pressure applying tool.

(Cl. 1S9-75) This invention relates to window constructions and is particularly concerned with improvements in a window of the fixed sash type which is adapted to be installed in an opening in a wall of masonry, stone or similar construction.
It is a general object of the invention to provide a fixed sash-type window having a metal frame for receiving a glass pane and associated fastening means for mounting the frame in an opening in a wall and for securing the glass in a glazing channel provided in the frame.
It is a more specific object of the invention to provide a window construction which comprises a metal frame having an inwardly opening glazing channel for receiving a glass pane and fastening elements for securing the frame in leakproof relation in an opening of fixed dimensions in a stone or masonry wall and cooperating fastening elements for clamping the glass pane in the glazing channel with the marginal edges of the pane seated in a compressible glazing strip and with the glazing strip compressed so as to permanently seal the pane in the glazing channel.
It is a stfll more specific object of the invention to provide a window installation wherein a rigid metal frame having an inwardly opening glazing channel and an outer sealing gasket is secured in leakproof relation in an opening of fixed dimensions provided therefor in a stone or masonry wall by a series of peripherally spaced fastening elements and a glass pane having its marginal edges encased in a glazing strip of rubber-like material is permanently fastened in the glazing channel by a series of peripherally spaced clamping elements which are associated with the frame fastening elements and which engage in clamping relation with a clamping bar seated in the glazing channel and forming a movable inner Wall for the glazing channel so as to compress the glazing strip and provide an airtight seal, with the clamping bar and the fastening and clamping elements being covered by a snap-on trim strip.
It is another object of the invention to provide a window construction wherein a rigid metal frame is provided with an inwardly opening glazing channel having a separate clamping bar for closing the inner side thereof and a series of fastening and clamping devices adapted to be spaced about the periphery of the frame for first mounting the frame in an opening in a stone or masonry wall and thereafter securing the glass and a glazing strip encasing the margins thereof in the glazing channel by tightly engaging the clamping bar and compressing the glazing strip, thereby applying pressure uniformly on the margins or edge of the glass about the periphery of the same.
It is still another object of the invention to provide a window construction of the type described and a method of installing the same wherein the frame is first locked in the opening by a plurality of peripherally spaced frictional clamping elements which engage the frame and the wall around the opening in which the frame is positioned with the clamping elements having a recess for receiving a sash holding clip which is inserted therein and thereafter the glass pane and an associated glazing strip which encases the marginal edges of the pane are clamped in compressed relation in the glazing channel of the frame by the holding clips which engage the glazing strip at one end and the frame clamping elements at the other end and which 3,15 l ,7 l 5 Patented Oct. 6, 1964 ice are seated in the recesses in the clamping elements while the glazing strip is held compressed to a greater degree than in its finally installed position in which it is retained by the holding clips.
It is still another object of the invention to provide a tool for use in installing a window and fastening elements therefor of the character described which tool is adapted to be engaged with the frame fastening elements and the clamping bar for the glazing strip, after the frame is installed in the opening provided therefor and the glass pane with its margins encased in the glazing strip is positioned in the glazing channel, so as to apply pressure on the glazing strip for compressing the same sufliciently to permit compression holding and sash clamping elements to be seated in recesses provided in the frame fastening elements which holding elements are adapted to maintain the glazing strip in compressed condition upon release of the pressure on the glazing strip and disengagement of the tool.
These and other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from a consideration of the window construction and the method and means for installing the same which are shown by way of illustration in the accompanying drawings wherein:

Referring to FIGURES 1 to 5 of the drawings particularly, there is illustrated a window construction embodying the invention which comprises a rigid frame secured in an opening 11 of fixed dimensions which is provided therefor in a vertical wall 12 of masonry or similar material. The frame 10 supports a pane of glass 13 which has its marginal edges seated in a channel-like recess 14 in a compressible glazing strip 15 of generally U-shaped cross section.
The frame It is formed of shaped sheet metal, such as stainless steel, or the like. Preferably, a single piece or plate is bent and welded, as shown particularly in FIGURES 2 and 5, so as to provide a main Wall forming member 16 which extends about the peripheral edge or face of the frame and which is positioned in generally parallel and confronting relation with the inwardly facing edges 11' of the opening 11 when the frame is installed in the latter. The frame 10 has an outside face forming exterior wall 17 with the outer peripheral portion, or the lower portion, as viewed in FIGURE 2, constituting a vertically extending, double thickness peripheral flange 18 on the outer edge of the main wall member 16. The flange 13 is adapted to be positioned in confronting relation with the exterior face 19 of the wall 12 at the marginal edge surrounding the opening 11 and is provided with a Weatherstrip 20 of rubber, or other compressible and resilient material, which will form with the wall face 19, when tightly drawn against the same, a waterproof seal. The frame 14 has an exterior wall section 21 which is disposed horizontally in FIGURE 2 and extends inwardly of the vertically disposed wall 17 to the upper edge of a vertical web portion 22, the latter extending from the wall 16 inwardly in the plane of the opening toward the center of the frame and constituting one wall or side of a glazing channel 23. The inner portion of the frame wall 16 forms an adjoining wall 24 of the glazing channel 23 so that the glazing channel opens inwardly of the frame in the direction of the center thereof and in the direction inwardly of the wall opening. The wall 24 of the glazing channel 23 is formed with a double thickness of material and is provided along its innermost margin with spaced pairs of L-shaped tongue forming members 25 and 26 which are cut from the wall forming material and bent out of the plane thereof so as to form two oppositely disposed, transversely extending recesses or pockets which are open towards each other and in the direction transversely of the frame wall 16. These pockets cooperate with the wall portion between them to form a transverse guideway for receiving portions of a frame engaging member 27 which constitutes one element of a two part fastening and clamping device or assembly 28. The fastening assembly or device 28 serves the dual function of frictionally securing or fastening the frame 10 in the opening 11 and also clamping the glazing member 15 with the glass 13 seated therein in compressed relation in the glazing channel 23.
The frame fastening or securing element 27 of the assembly 28 is formed from a metal plate cut and bent to provide a generally U-shaped cross section with the portion 30 constituting a rectangular face which is disposed in a vertical plane when the fastening member or element 27 is positioned on the horizontal bottom edge of a vertical opening, as shown in FIGURES 2 to 6. The frame fastening element 27 has top and bottom forming flanges or legs 31 and 32 and is adapted to be positioned with the inner edge of the bottom flange 32 in abutting engagement with the inside face 33 of the wall 12 adjacent the opening 11 therein. The uppermost flange or leg 31 of the element 27 has a length slightly less than the distance between the oppositely disposed extremities of the tongue members 25 and 26 and is adapted to seat in sliding relation in the guideway formed by the latter. The top flange what lesser length which has a hook forming edge 35 for engaging in a rectangular slot 36 provided in the main wall 16 of the frame 10 when the element is in frame securing position. The uppermost leg or flange 31 of the element 27 is provided with longitudinally spaced, transversely extending slots 37 and 38 adjacent opposite ends thereof and an intermediate, relatively long, longitudinally extending slot 40 between the two transverse slots 37 and 38 for purposes which will be described.
As shown in FIGURES 2 to 6, the frame 19 in unglazed condition is adapted to be initially positioned in the opening 11 and permanently secured therein by a plurality of the fastening elements 27 which are spaced around the periphery of the frame. The frame 10 is first positioned in the opening 11 and the fastening elements 27 are then installed by sliding the uppermost flanges 31 through the guideways formed by the bent tongues 25 and 26 and applying pressure to the oppositely disposed vertical Walls 1'7 and 31 of the frame and fastening elements, respectively, sufiicient to compress the Weatherstrip 29 and engage the hooked edge 35 of each flange extension 34 in the slot 35 provided therefor in the main wall 16 of the frame 19. With the frame 10 initially seated in the opening 11 and held by the fastening elements 27 the glass 13 with its marginal edges seated in the recess 14 of the glazing strip 15 is positioned in the glazing channel 23, as indicated in FlGURE 6, and a glazing bar 41, preferably of metal and of generally rectangular cross section, is positioned along the exposed vertical face of the glazing strip 15 after which pressure is applied to the vertical face 42 of the bar 41 by means of a tool, which will be hereinafter described, and while the glazing strip 15 is under substantial compression a clamping element or bent plate member 43 is associated with each of the frame fastening elements 27 to clamp the pane 13 in position and hold the glazing strip 15 under compression.
The combination compression holding and clamping element or clip member 43 is formed of a metal plate which is bent as shown in FIGURES 5 and 6 with the middle portion 44 of the plate being in a plane which is offset from the plane of the two end wings 45 and 46, and with the end portions or wings 45 and 46 being of a width corresponding approximately to the width of the vertical face 42 of the glazing bar 41. The element 43 is adapted to be positioned with the portion 47 inserted in the slot 40 of the frame fastening element 27 so that its bottom edge engages with an abutment tongue 48 which is cut from the inner margin of the lower flange 32 of the fastening element 27 and turned upwardly as shown in FIGURES 2 and 3. After a clamping element 43 is positioned in the slot 40 of a frame fastening element the laterally directed pressure on the face 42 of the glazing bar 41 is relieved and the glazing assembly is thereafter held in compressed relation in the glazing channel 23 by the clamping element 43. When all the clamping elements 43 have been installed a trim strip 50 of channel shaped section is snapped into position over the glazing bar 41 and the fastening assemblies 28. The trim strip 56 is formed from relatively thin metal plate, such as strainless steel, and comprises a vertical wall or face 51 and a flange 52 having its marginal edge bent over at 53 so as to engage in a recess formed between the beveled edge 54 of the glazing bar 41 and the innermost vertical wall of the glazing strip 15. The other flange 55 of the trim strip 50 has its marginal edge 56 bent over so as to snap over button-like abutments 57 on the flange 31 of the frame securing element 27. When the trim strip 50 is snapped into position the installation of the window is completed.
The tool 60 which is illustrated in FIGURES 6 to 10 is provided for use in applying pressure to the glazing assembly while installing the clamping elements 43 of the fastening and clamping assemblies 28. It comprises a pressure applying plate 61 of generally rectangular shape with the inner edge cut out to form a recess at 62 and provided with abutment bars 63 and 64 disposed in parallel relation at opposite ends which have vertical faces 65 and 66 for positioning in engagement with the face 42 of the glazing bar 41 as shown in FEGURES 7 and 8. The plate 61 is provided with two longitudinally spaced, transversely extending elongate slots 67 and 68 which form parallel guideways for headed slide pins 69 and 71) extending through the slots 67 and 58 from a gripper plate 71, slots 67, 68 and cooperating pins 59 and 76 forming a sliding connection between the plates 61 and 71. The gripper plate 71 is cut away at its forward edge at 72 and provided with two parallel flange sections 73 and 74 which are of identical construction and which are each provided with a slot 75 as shown in FIGURE 9. The slot 75 divides each of the flange sections to provide two spaced legs 76 and 77. The gripper plate 71 has a handle 7 8 and an operating lever 89 is pivotally connected thereto by a headed pin 81 which extends through an elongate transverse slot 32 in the plate 61. The lever 81) carries a depending pivot pin 83 adjacent the connecting pin $1 which extends into a longitudinally extending slot 84 in the pressure plate 61. When the lever 86 is swung about the pivot 81, the pin 83 moves the pressure plate 61 back and forward relative to the gripper plate 71.
In using the tool 61 in the installation of the fastener assemblies the operating lever 81) is swung to retract the pressure plate 61 relative to the gripper plate 71 in the direction of the handle member 78 and the forward legs 76 of the gripper flanges 73 and 74 are inserted in the slots 37 and 38 in a frame fastening element 27, as shown in FIGURE 7. This brings the abutment faces 65 and 66 on the pressure plate 61 into confronting relation with the exposed side 42 of the glazing bar. By swinging the operating lever St? in a counterclockwise direction, as viewed in FIGURE 7, about the pivot 81 the pressure plate 61 is moved forward to apply lateral pressure to the glazing bar 41 which compresses the glazing strip 15 to an extent suflicient to permit the clamping or locking plate 43 to be dropped into the slot :1 in the frame fastening element 27 so that when the pressure is relieved on the glazing bar 41, by swinging the lever 81) in the clockwise direction, the wings 45 and 46 of the plate 43 will engage with the side 42 of the glazing bar 41 and hold the glazing strip 15 in compressed relation sufiicient for the glass pane 13 to be tightly clamped in the glazing channel 23. The tool 51 is removed when the clamping plate 43 is in proper position and when all the plates 43 have been installed the inside trim strip 56 is applied to complete the Window installation.
Another form of the window construction is shown in FIGURES 11 to 14 in which the frame and fastener elements are adapted to be fabricated from extruded aluminum sections. In this form of the invention the frame is adapted to be seated in an opening 111 of fixed dimensions in a wall 112 and to support a pane of glass 113 having its marginal edges seated in a recess 114 in a compressible glazing strip 115 of generally U-shaped cross section.
The frame 118 is fabricated from an extruded aluminum member or section which is shaped to provide a main wall member 116 extending about the peripheral edge or face of the flame and which is adapted to be positioned in confronting relation with the edge 111' of the opening 111 when the frame is installed in the latter. The frame has an outside face forming exterior wall 117 with a peripheral margin 118 which is adapted to be positioned in confronting relation with the exterior face 119 of the wall 112 around the opening 111 and which is provided with a compressible Weatherstrip 120 so as to form a seal when compressed between the frame wall portion 118 and the wall face 119. The frame 119 has an exterior wall section 121 which is disposed horizontally in FIGURE 14 and extends inwardly of the wall 117 to the upper edge of the vertical web portion 122.
The vertical web portion 122 extends inwardly in the plane of the opening 111 and cooperates with the frame main wall 116 to form the glazing channel 123 so that the latter opens inwardly of the frame in the direction of the center thereof and in the direction inwardly of the wall opening. The web portion 122 is preferably ribbed as shown on the face opposite the glazing channel for reinforcement. The frame wall 116 is provided along its innermost margin with spaced pairs of L-shaped tongue forming members 125 and 126 which are cut from the wall material and bent out of the plane thereof as shown so as to form two oppositely disposed, trans versely extending recesses or pockets which are open towards each other and the direction transversely of the frame wall 116. These pockets cooperate with the wall portion between them to form a transverse guideway for receiving portions of a frame engaging member 127 which constitutes one element of a two part fastening and clamping device or assembly 128.
The frame fastening element 127 of the assembly 128 is fabricated from an extruded aluminum section having a portion which is of generally U-shaped cross section with a rectangular surface or edge 131i constituting the vertically disposed inner face of the member when the frame is mounted in an opening in a vertical wall, as shown, and the element 127 is positioned in frame securing relation along the horizontal bottom edge thereof so that the surface 131 of the U-shaped portion is uppermost and the surface 132 abuts the inside face 133 of the wall 112 adjacent the opening 111 therein. A platelilre flange formation 134 extends in the plane of the upper face 151 of the member 127 which is reduced in length and has its free marginal edge turned over to form a hook 135 for engaging an outwardly projecting abutment shoulder 136 at the juncture of the rame walls 116 and 122. The maximum dimension of the flange or tongue 134' is slightly less than the distance between the oppositely disposed extremities of the tongue members 125 and 126 so that it is adapted to seat in sliding relation in the guideway formed by the latter to enable the hooked edge 135 to be engaged with the shoulder 136. The U-shaped portion of the member 127 provides a vertically extending slot with open ends 137, 138 and an upwardly opening pocket forming intermediate portion 149 between the same.
As shown in FIGURES 11 and 12, the frame 116 in unglazed condition is adapted to be poistioned in the opening 111 and permanently secured therein by a pinrality of the fastening elements 127 which are spaced around the periphery of the frame. The frame 119 is positioned in the opening and the fastening elements 127 are installed by sliding the tongues 134 through the guideways formed by the bent tongues 125 and 126 on the frame and compressing the assembly sufficiently to engage the hooked edge 135 of each tongue 134 with the shoulder 136 on the frame. The glass 1113 with its margins seated in the recess 114 in the glazing strip 115 is then positioned in the glazing channel 123 and a rigid metal glazing bar 141 is placed along the exposed vertical inner face of the glazing strip 115, after which pressure is applied to the vertical face 142 of the bar 141 by means of a tool similar to the pressure applying tool 61 (FIGURES 6 and 10), and while the glazing strip 115 is under substantial compression a clamping element 143 is assembled with each of the frame fastening elements 127 to clamp the pane 113 in position with the glazing strip 115 under compression.
The clamping element 143 has two plate- like portions 144 and 145 which are in parallel offset planes and connected by a relatively narrow web portion 146, with the one plate portion 144 having a length somewhat less than the length of the U-shaped portion of the fastener element 127 and being adapted to be seated in the pocket forming middle portion of the upwardly opening slot in the element 127 so as to engage the other plate portion 145 with the vertical face 142 of the glazing strip 141 and leaving the ends 137, 138 of the slot open for cooperation with the pressure applying tool. After each clamping element 143 is positioned with the plate portion 144 in the pocket of a frame fastening element 127 the laterally directed pressure on the face 142- of the glazing bar 141 is relieved and the glazing assembly is thereafter held in compressed relation in the glazing channel 123 by the clamping elements 1 .3.
When all the clamping elements 143 have been installed, a trim strip 15% of channel-shaped cross section is snapped into position over the glazing bar 141 and the fastening assemblies 123. The trim strip 15% comprises the face forming wall 151 and adjoining flanges 152 and 153 with the free edges of the latter bent at 154 and 155, respectively, as shown so that the one bent edge 154 may be seated in a recess formed between the beveled edge 156 of the glazing bar 141 and the glazing strip 115 while the other edge 155 is snapped over the abutment shoulder 157 on the face 158 of the fastening element 127, to complete the installation of the window.
The frame fastening elements 127 are adapted to be installed with the use of a pressure applying tool 176 of the same character as tool 69, the gripping plate 171 (FIGURE 12) of the tool being provided with parallel flange formations 173 and 174 having inwardly directed hook forming tongue members 176 and 177 which are adapted to be engaged in the open ends 137 and 138 of the slot in the fastening element 127 while the tool is operated in the same manner as described with reference to the tool 69. In both forms of the window construction which are described and illustrated, when the installation is completed, there is uniform pressure on the peripheral edges of the glass which are seated in the recess in the compressible glazing channel.
While particular materials and specific details of construction have been referred to in describing the illustrated forms of the window and the tool for installing the same, it will be understood that equivalent materials and variations in the details of construction may be resorted to within the spirit of the invention.
We claim:
1. A fastening and clamping assembly for a window frame and a glass pane having its margins encased in a compressible glazing member and disposed in a glazing channel provided in said frame, which assembly comprises a frame fastening member having a plate-like portion with a hook formation extending along one edge and a reversely bent flange extending in the opposite direction along the opposite edge thereof, said flange forming with adjoining margins of said plate portion a channel-like section, said plate portion having a relatively narrow elongate aperture adjacent the edge with the bent flange, said plate portion having a pair of relatively short, transverse tool receiving slots adjacent the ends of said elongate aperture, and said assembly comprising also a member for clamping the compressible glazing member which clamping member has a tongue portion which is removably seated in the elongate aperture in the frame fastening member and wing-like ends extending in an offset plane for engaging in clamping relation with the face of the glazing member.
2. A fastening and clamping assembly for a window frame and a glass pane having its margins encased in a compressible glazing member and disposed in an inwardly opening glazing channel provided in said frame, which assembly comprises a frame fastening member having a plate-like portion with a hook formation extending along one edge and a flange formation extending in the opposite direction along the opposite edge thereof, said plate portion having a relatively nan-ow elongate slot at the edge with the flange formation, and said assembly comprising also a member for clamping the compressible glazing member which clamping member has a tongue portion along one margin which is removably seated in the elongate slot in the frame fastening member and said clamping member having portions along the opposite margin extending in an offset plane for engaging in clamping relation with the inner face of the glazing member.
3. A window construction for mounting in an opening in a wall wherein the opening is characterized by an edge surface of substantial width extending around the periphery of the opening and the window is characterized by a frame having a peripheral Wall member of greater width than the width of the edge surface of the opening, said frame wall member having an outside face extending in confronting relation with the edge surface of the opening when the frame is mounted in the opening, said frame wall member having an angular flange extending along its outermost edge which overlaps the outside face of the wall around the opening, a compressible Weatherstrip between said outside flange and said outside face of the wall, said frame wall member having peripherally spaced pairs of spaced tongues cut in its inner marginal portions and bent out of the plane thereof to form a series of spaced guideways on the outside face of said frame wall member for receiving plate-like fastener elements, and a plurality of rigid fastener elements each having a platelike body portion of relatively short length which is slidable in one of said guideways into flat engagement with the outside face of said frame wall member, an angular flange on one edge of said body portion and a hook formation on the opposite edge of said body portion, said hook formation being removably inter-engaged with a portion of the frame wall member and said angular flange engaging with the inside face of the Wall around the Wall opening and applying pressure thereto thereby compressing the Weatherstrip and permanently clamping the frame in the opening.
4. A window construction for mounting in an opening in a wall wherein the opening is characterized by an edge surface of fixed dimensions extending around the periphery of the opening and the window is characterized by a frame having an inwardly opening glazing channel and a peripheral wall member of greater Width than the width of the edge surface of the opening when mounted therein, with the outside face of said peripheral wall member in confronting relation with and adjacent the edge surface of the opening, a glass pane having compressible glazing members along its margins seated in send glazing channel, said peripheral wall member having spaced tongue cut in its inner marginal portions and bent out of the plane thereof to form a series of peripherally spaced guideways on the outside face of said Wall member for receiving plate-like fastener elements, a plurality of frame fastener elements, each of said frame fastener elements being of relatively short length and having a plate-like body portion slidably positioned in one of said guideways, an angular flange on one edge of said plate-like body portion, said plate-like body portion having means on its opposite edge which is removably interengaged with a portion of.
said peripheral wall member and said flange being engaged with marginal portions of the inside face of the wall around the opening, said plate-like portion having a rela tively narrow, elongate slot adjacent the edge with the flange, and a member associated with each frame fastener element for clamping the pane and its associated glazing members in the glazing channel, said clamping member having a tongue portion along one margin which is removably seated in the elongate slot of the frame fastener element and said clamping member having portions along the opposite margins extending in an offset plane and engaging in clamping relation with the inner face of the innermost glazing member.

A two piece fastener and clamping assembly for a window frame and a glass pane having a compressible glazing member along its margins and disposed in a glazing channel provided in said frame which assembly comprises a frame fastening member of rigid material and of relatively short length having a plate-like portion with a hook formation extending along one edge and a flange extending in the opposite direction along the opposite edge thereof, said fastening member having a relatively narrow elongate aperture adjacent the flanged edge, and said assembly comprising a member for clamping the compressible glazing member which clamping member is also of rigid material and of relatively short length and said clamping member having two plate-like portions which are in parallel, offset planes with one of said platelike portions being removably seated in the elongate aperture in the frame fastening member and the other platelike portion engaged with the face of the glazing member and applying pressure thereto, thereby compressing and clamping the glazing member.

A two piece fastening and clamping assembly as recited in claim 5 and the one plate-like portion of said clamping member which is removably seated in the aperture in said frame fastening member being of lesser length than the length of said aperture and being seated in the middle portion of said elongate aperture so as to leave the ends thereof free for receiving a tool.

Claims (1)

1. A FASTENING AND CLAMPING ASSEMBLY FOR A WINDOW FRAME AND A GLASS PANE HAVING ITS MARGINS ENCASED IN A COMPRESSIBLE GLAZING MEMBER AND DISPOSED IN A GLAZING CHANNEL PROVIDED IN SAID FRAME, WHICH ASSEMBLY COMPRISES A FRAME FASTENING MEMBER HAVING A PLATE-LIKE PORTION WITH A HOOK FORMATION EXTENDING ALONG ONE EDGE AND A REVERSELY BENT FLANGE EXTENDING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION ALONG THE OPPOSITE EDGE THEREOF, SAID FLANGE FORMING WITH ADJOINING MARGINS OF SAID PLATE PORTION A CHANNEL-LIKE SECTION, SAID PLATE PORTION HAVING A RELATIVELY NARROW ELONGATE APERTURE ADJACENT THE EDGE WITH THE BENT FLANGE, SAID PLATE PORTION HAVING A PAIR OF RELATIVELY SHORT, TRANSVERSE TOOL RECEIVING SLOTS ADJACENT THE ENDS OF SAID ELONGATE APERTURE, AND SAID ASSEMBLY COMPRISING ALSO A MEMBER FOR CLAMPING THE COMPRESSIBLE GLAZING MEMBER WHICH CLAMPING MEMBER HAS A TONGUE PORTION WHICH IS REMOVABLY SEATED IN THE ELONGATE APERTURE IN THE FRAME FASTENING MEMBER AND WING-LIKE ENDS EXTENDING IN AN OFFSET PLANE FOR ENGAGING IN CLAMPING RELATION WITH THE FACE OF THE GLAZING MEMBER.
