Abstract

908,927. Confining dust generated in industrial processes. HOLMAN BROS. Ltd. Feb. 16, 1959 [Feb. 19, 1958], No. 5474/58. Class 8(2). A generally flat box-shaped suction nozzle 15, Fig. 1, is mounted above a thin flexible grinding disc 11 of a portable grinder and at one side of the axis of rotation 32 so as to overlie a sector of the disc 11 and subtent an angle less than 180 degrees to the centre, the nozzle 15 having an elongated suction mouth or a plurality of mouths 25 extending along the lower portion of the outer edge 19 of the nozzle and adjacent to but radially outwardly of the periphery of the disc 11. The nozzle is of flared profile in plan and defines within itself a flattened fan-shaped suction passage 24, Fig. 5, or group of passages which flare outwardly from the inner edge 20 to the outer edge 19 which as shown in Fig. 3 is formed in two straight portions 19a, 19b inclined to one another at an obtuse angle. A suction outlet 26 is formed adjacent the inner edge 20 of the nozzle 15 and the latter is secured to the grinder 10 by an arm 28 split sleeve 29 and clamp 30.
