Abstract

908,734. Globes and shades for electric light fittings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. May 25, 1961 [May 26, 1960], No. 18663/60. Class 75 (2). ' A shade for an electric light fitting comprises a plurality of segments designed to be assembled side by side around an axis to form an almost completely closed shell which is light transmitting over a substantial part and at least at one end of the axis is shaped to co-operate with retaining means designed to encircle and hold the segments together, the segments also being shaped to provide at one or both ends of the axis when assembled a passage or passages for the entry of electric supply conductors. In one form, the shade is made up of three similar sections 1, 2, 3, Fig. 1, fitting together to form a roughly triangular body. The sections are formed with top and bottom projections which combine to form a cylinder and are fitted into two cup-shaped elements 7, 8, the lower of which is secured to the bottom of a support rod 6 through which the electric cables to the lamps pass, the upper element being slidable on the rod 6. Various modifications employing twopart shades held together with end caps or spring retaining rings are described. The segments may be plain or coloured, transparent or translucent and may be provided with internal prisms for modifying the light distribution. Mating grooves may be provided in the segments to form ventilation holes.
