Abstract

A floral decorative night light assembly comprising a plug means which includes a housing having a reduced diameter portion provided with a light bulb socket means, a low intensity light bulb having a stem located in said socket means, said bulb being provided with a suitable coating to provide rapid cooling of the bulb, a simulated leaf background member having a central hole therethrough and a plurality of simulated leaf tips extending radially outward around the periphery thereof, and said simulated leaf background member being disposed on the top of said reduced diameter housing portion with said bulb stem extending through said central hole in said simulated leaf background member, a carrier member having a central mounting ring mounted on the upper side of said simulated leaf background member with said bulb stem also extending through said mounting ring, whereby when said bulb is securely located in said socket means the carrier member and simulated leaf background member will be retained in place on the plug means by said bulb and a plurality of simulated flowers mounted on said carrier member in a circular arrangement around said bulb.

Decorative night lights have been provided heretofore, as illustrated by the decorative night light shown in U.S. Pat. No. 3,433,939. The decorative night light shown in the last mentioned patent includes a low intensity cool burning electric bulb which eliminates the fire hazards normally present when decorative material is disposed adjacent an electric bulb. A decorative night light of this type sheds a soft glow of lightto provide a subdued light for night time home use. However, the assembling of the various parts of the decorative night light described in said patent involves an expense which makes the cost of such decorative night light prohibitive or beyond the means of some people. Accordingly, it is an important object of the present invention to provide a floral decorative night light which overcomes the economic disadvantages of the aforementioned decorative night light.
It is another object of the present invention to provide an improved floral decorative night light which includes a plurality of simulated flowers.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide an improved floral decorative night light which includes the combination of a low intensity cool burning electric bulb surrounded by a simulated floral design comprising a plurality of simulated flowers and simulated leaf background member.
It is still another object of the present invention to provide an improved floral decorative night light which includes a simulated floral arrangement which is secured in place around the bulb by the attaching action ofthe bulb in a plug means.
It is still another object of the present invention to provide an improved floral decorative night light which can be economically manufactured and assembled from a preformed plastic simulated floral arrangement and a simulated leaf background member, in colors corresponding to the colors of the various flowers being simulated.
It is still another object of the present invention to provide an improved floral decorative night light assembly comprising a plug means which includes a housing having a reduced diameter portion provided with a light bulb socket means, a low intensity light bulb having a stem located in said socket means, said bulb being provided with a suitable coating to provide rapid cooling of the bulb, a simulated leaf background member having a central hole therethrough and a plurality of simulated leaf tips extending radially outward around the periphery thereof, and said simulated leaf background member being disposed on the top of said reduced diameter housing portion with said bulb stern extending through said central hole in said simulated leaf background member, a carrier member havinga central mounting ring mounted on the upper side of said simulated leaf background member with said bulb stem also extending through said mounting ring, whereby when said bulb is securely located in said socket means the carrier member and simulated leaf background member will be retained in place on the plug means by said bulb, and a plurality of simulated flowers mounted on said carrier member in a circular arrangement around said bulb. The night light assembly may also be made without the simulated leaf background.
Other objects, features and advantages of this invention will be apparent from the following detailed description, appended claims, and the accompanying drawings.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring now to the drawings, and in particular to FIG. 1, the numeral 10 generally designates an electrical plug having spaced prongs l] which are adapted to be plugged into a female electric supply plug located in a home or other place of use. The electrical plug 10 is provided with the usual switch 12 for turning the decorative night light on and off. The electrical plug 10 includes a housing having a reduced diameter portion I3 provided with a light bulb threaded socket or fitting to receive a small diameter electric bulb 14. The bulb 14 is of the same type bulb as used in the night light illustrated in the aforementioned U.S. Pat. No. 3,433,939. The bulb 14 is of a low electrical intensity such as, for example, a 'l-watt bulb to provide a low degree of illumination and to reduce the intensity of heat that is emanated from the bulb when it is illuminated. A suitable bulb I4 is one disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 3.067,352.
As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, a simulated leaf background member 15 is mounted on the top of the plug reduced diameter housing portion 13. As shown in FIG. 3, the simulated leaf background member 15 is provided with a central hole 16 for passage of the stem of the bulb 14. A plurality of slits 17 are formed in the simulated leaf background member, around the hole 16, and they are connected to the hole 16. The slits l7 permit the flexing of the simulated leaf background member 15 during the mounting of the same on the plug 10. The simulated leaf background member 15 is provided around the periphery thereof with a plurality of simulated leaf tips 18. The simulated leaf background member 15 is preferably made from a suitable plastic and is colored green, although other suitable colors may be used.
As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, a plurality of simulated flowers 23 are mounted around the bulb l4 and they are carried on a carrier member 28 illustrated in detail in FIG. 5. FIG. 5 shows the carrier member 28 as comprising a central mounting ring 19 which is adapted to be mounted, as shown in FIG. 2, on top of the simulated leaf background member 15. The stem of the bulb 14 is adapted to pass through the ring 19 and securely hold the ring 19 and the simulated leaf background member in place on the top of the reduced diameter portion 13 of the housing of the plug 10. The carrier member 28 further includes a plurality of outwardly extended arms 20 which have their inner ends integrally formed to the ring 19 and which are attached to the bottom side of the ring 19. The arms 21 extend radially outwardly from the ring 19 and each of these arms 21 are provided on the outer ends thereof with an integral and upwardly extended second arm 21. The second arm 21 is provided with a male attachment member, as 22, which is shown in the form of a bulb. It will be understood that the last mentioned structure of the carrier member 28 may be formed as an integral molded plastic structure and be made to any suitable color. The simulated flowers 23a are shown in FIG. 5 as being of a different type ofa flower as that shown in FIG. 1. However, the simulated flowers 23 are all attached to the carrier member 28 in the same manner as the flowers 23a. As illustrated in FIG. 5, each of these simulated plastic flowers 23a are provided with a suitable cylindrical open-ended female socket attachment portion 24 on the lower side thereof into which is adapted to be snapped the flower mounting male attachment member 22 for retaining the simulated flowers 23a on the carrier member 28 in a circular arrangement around the bulb 14.
As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the night light is preferably provided with a ribbon 25 which is wound around the plug reduced diameter portion 13 and formed as a bow or otherwise. The ribbon 25 may be of any suitable color which harmonizes with the coloring of the simulated flowers 23 and the simulated leaf background member 15.
FIG. 4 illustrates another illustrative embodiment in which the simulated flowers have been marked with the reference numeral 23b to merely show that other shaped or types of flowers may be used. It will be understood that the simulated flowers 23b are provided with a female socket mounting member 24 of the type illustrated in FIG. 5 for mounting it on a male mounting attachment member 22.
FIG. 6 illustrates a modified carrier member 280 and the parts of this modified carrier member 28c have been marked with the same reference numerals as used with the first described carrier member 28 of FIG. 5,
outwardly from the ring 190. The outer end male attachment members 22c are straight as compared to the bulb shaped male attachment members 22 of FIG. 5. Each of the simulated flowers 23c is provided with a female attachment socket 24c for snapping the simulated flowers 230 in place on the male attachment member 220.
FIG. 7 is a figure similar to FIG. 2 and merely illustrates a modified night light in which the simulated leaf background member 18 has been deleted.
It will be understood that the simulated flowers 23, 23b, and 23c are merely illustrative of colored plastic flowers which may be employed. It will be understood that the flowers may conform to the shape and coloring of various flower petals as desired, and made to any desired color. It will also be understood that the colors of the bulbs 14 may be varied to permit the users to select the desired combinations to match the color combinations of individual rooms.
While it will be apparent that the preferred embodiments of the invention herein disclosed are well calcu lated to fulfill the objects above stated, it will be appreciated that the invention is susceptible to modification, variation and change.
What I claim is:
l. A floral decorative night light assembly comprismg:
a. a plug means including a housing having spaced contact prongs at one end of said housing and a light bulb socket means in a reduced diameter portion at the other end of said housing;
b. a low intensity light bulb having a stem located in said socket means;
c. means coating said bulb to diffuse the light emanating from the bulb and to provide rapid cooling of the bulb;
. a carrier member having a central mounting ring disposed on the top of said reduced diameter housing portion with said bulb stem extending through said mounting ring;
c. said central mounting ring having a diameter effective to allow the bulb to pass therethrough into said socket means to retain the carrier member in place on the plug means; and
f. a plurality of simulated flowers detachably mounted on said carrier member in a circular arrangement around said bulb.
2. A floral decorative night light as defined in claim 1, including:
a. a simulated leaf background member having a central hole therethrough and a plurality of simulated leaf tips extending radially outward around the periphery thereof, and said background member being disposed on the top of said reduced diameter housing portion and under said carrier member with said bulb stem extending through said central hole in said simulated leaf background member.
3. A floral decorative night light as defined in claim including:
a. a ribbon mounted around said reduced diameter plug portion.

a. said carrier member is provided with a plurality of arms radiating outwardly from said central mounting ring;

A floral decorative night light assembly comprising: a. a plug means including a housing having spaced contact prongs at one end of said housing and a light bulb socket means in a reduced diameter portion at the other end of said housing; b. a low intensity light bulb having a stem located in said socket means; c. means coating said bulb to diffuse the light emanating from the bulb and to provide rapid cooling of the bulb; d. a carrier member having a central mounting ring disposed on the top of said reduced diameter housing portion with said bulb stem extending through said mounting ring; e. said central mounting ring having a diameter effective to allow the bulb to pass therethrough into said socket means to retain the carrier member in place on the plug means; and f. a plurality of simulated flowers detachably mounted on said carrier member in a circular arrangement around said bulb.

A floral decorative night light as defined in claim 1, including: a. a simulated leaf background member having a central hole therethrough and a plurality of simulated leaf tips extending radially outward around the periphery thereof, and said background member being disposed on the top of said reduced diameter housing portion and under said carrier member with said bulb stem extending through said central hole in said simulated leaf background member.
3. A floral decorative night light as defined in claim 1, including: a. a ribbon mounted around said reduced diameter plug portion.

A floral decorative night light as defined in claim 1, wherein: a. said carrier member is provided with a plurality of arms radiating outwardly from said central mounting ring; b. each of said arms being provided with a male attachment member; and, c. each of said simulated flowers being provided with a female attachment socket which is adapted to be attached to one of said male attachment members.
5. A floral decorative night light as defined in claim 4, wherein: a. each of said male attachment members comprises an integral ball shaped member.
6. A floral decorative night light as defined in claim 5, wherein: a. said arms are integrally attached to the lower side of said central mounting ring.
7. A floral decorative night light as defined in claim 4, wherein: a. each of said male attachment members comprises a integral cylindrical member.
8. A floral decorative night light as defined in claim 7, wherein: a. each of said arms is attached to the outer side of said central mounting ring.
