A book jacket is made from two sheets or plies 1, 2 secured together along a line or band 5 at or adjacent one margin. The inner ply 1 is paper, and the outer ply 2 is a transparent foil of thermoplastic material. The ply 1, Fig. 1, is wider than the ply 2 so that it extends beyond the edges 3 and 4 of the ply 2, and a duct cover 6 is placed between the plies. One edge of the jacket is folded along the line 13, and the other edge along the line 14 to suit the height of the book, and the jacket is then applied to the book by folding the sides of the jacket about the cover boards. Since the two plies 1, 2 are free to shift relatively to one another, the inner ply 1 is not buckled during the top and bottom folding operations. In Fig. 5, the transparent outer ply 2 extends beyond the edge 16 of the paper inner ply 1 at one margin, but at the other margin the inner ply 1 extends beyond the edge 17 of the outer ply 2. The top extension of ply 2 has a line of pressure-sensitive adhesive thereon which is covered by a removal protective strip 19. When a dust cover 6 has been placed between the plies, the jacket is first folded inside about the edge 17 adjacent the joining band 5, and the opposite edge of the inner ply 1 is then folded over to suit the height of the book. The overhanging edge of the outer ply 2 is now folded over, the strip 19 removed, and the ply 2 is adhesively secured to the inner surface of the ply 1. The jacket can now be applied to the book by folding the sides of the jacket about the cover boards.
