Abstract
920,670. Loose covers for books. B. D. DURAK. Sept. 29, 1961 [Dec. 16, 1960], No. 43304/60. Class 16. A loose jacket or cover for a book is made from a rectangular sheet 1, Fig. 1, of transparent plastic film to the top and to the bottom edge of which there are secured paper or cardboard flaps 2, 3, respectively, one face of the flap 2 and the opposite face of the flap 3 being pre-treated at 4 and 5, respectively, with a dry or contact adhesive. To fit the jacket to a book, a central panel along chain lines 6A is removed from each flap 2, 3 to correspond to the book spine, the open book is placed on the jacket, and the bottom flap 3 is then folded up and over into engagement with the inner faces of the fixed cover of the book. The loose jacket is then secured in position by folding the upper flap 2 to bring the adhesive portion 4 thereon into engagement with the adhesive face 5 of the flap 3 to form tunnels containing the fixed covers, and the projecting ends of the jacket are then folded inwardly along vertical lines to cause the adhesive faces 5 of the flaps 3 to adhere together. A picture paper dust cover may be placed between the jacket and the fixed cover. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the upper and lower edges of the plastic transparent sheet 1 are folded over and adhesively secured to a single paper strip 10, which is perforated along a line 11 and treated with a dry contact adhesive along the inner face below the line 11 and along the outer face above the line 11 for the purpose described above. The jacket is first separated along the line 11, and then the spine parts are removed along perforated lines 9.
