Abstract

1,123,779. Loose leaf binders. K. BENE. 29 Nov., 1966, No. 53449/66. Heading B6E. A loose leaf binder comprising a sheet of cardboard having a covering of plastics sheet material extending over both faces thereof, the plastics sheets being seamed together around the peripheral edge regions of the cardboard, and the whole being folded along lines 7 to provide front and back covers 1, 2, and a spine 3, is characterized by the provision of cutouts or recesses 9 in the cardboard at points 8 where the hinge lines 7 meet the upper and lower edges of the sheet of cardboard. Thus, when the covers are folded about the hinge lines 7, the seamed edges of the plastics sheets can withdraw within the recesses 9, and will not be stressed and split. The recesses 9 (Fig. 5) can be semi-circular cut-outs. In another form (Figs. 6 and 7), the inside edge of the cardboard sheet is bevelled (at 10) near the points (8) to allow the seamed edges of the plastics sheets to withdraw during folding of the covers. The cardboard sheet (P, Fig. 2) is glued to the plastics sheets (F), and the peripheral seams of the plastics sheets are welded together. The spine 3 has a finger hole 3 and a label 5, and the sheetfiling mechanism of the binder is attached to the cover 2 by means of hollow rivets 6.
