1307814 Loose-leaf binders BIRMINGHAM BINDING CO Ltd 28 May 1970 [28 Feb 1969] 10719/69 Heading B6E In a binder for magazines or the like wherein a spine part hingedly connected to two covers is provided with cords or the like for engaging the folds in the magazines, the covers, spine and cords are made of thermoplastic material and are secured to the spine adjacent to their ends by fusion. As shown, two sheets 10, 11 of thermoplastic material such as P.V.C. are welded together along lines 15, 16, 17, 18 to form the covers 19, 20 and spine 21, with reinforcing sheets of cardboard 13, 14 in the cover parts. The innermost layer of the spine is divided by slits to form lengthwise-extending cord-like parts 22. The slits do not extend the full length of the spine, and the unslit parts 23, 24 are secured to the outer sheet 11 by welding along seams 25-28. Instead of the sheet 10 being slit to form the cords 22, a separate slit piece of thermoplastic material may be welded at its ends to the spine. Alternatively threads of thermoplastic material may be welded at their ends to the spine to form the cords.
