In a book cover, folder or the like the hinge portions between the cover boards and the back or spine are of plastics material, such as polypropylene, and each comprise a central thicker portion with portions of lesser thickness on each side thereof. In Fig. 3, the whole cover is moulded from a single piece of polypropylene to provide cover boards 2, a spine 4, and hinge portions comprising two thin narrow hinge lines 6a, 8a on each side of a thicker convex band 10a. Where the line 8a meets the board 2 it is chamfered at 16, and the band 10a is rounded at 20 to leave a zone 22 of the same thickness as the hinge lines. Fig. 5 also shows a moulded plastics cover comprising a spine 4b, cover boards 2b, hinge lines 6b, 8b, and bands 10b which are of flattened form. The three outside edges, such as 39, of the boards 2b are chamfered at an angle of ten degrees, and the inner edges 38 near the spine are chamfered at an angle of fifteen degrees, as shown. In Fig. 4, cover boards 2a and spine 4a are attached to hinge strips of plastic material comprising a central band 10a and thin narrow hinge lines 6a, 8a. The hinge strips are attached to the spine and cover boards by gummed strips 26 of cloth, paper &c. In one example, the maximum thicknesses of the hinge lines, intermediate bands, cover boards, and spine are, respectively, 0À02, 0À05, 0À0937 and 0À075 inches.
