Abstract
908,216. Coated fabrics; laminates. STAFLEX CO. Ltd. Oct. 23, 1958 [Oct. 24, 1957], No. 33196/57. Drawings to Specification. Class 140. Interlining material is produced by passing a web of fabric or other flexible sheet material beneath means for distributing nodules of synthetic resin over the surface in spaced relationship, each nodule comprising a cluster of particles of resin only partially coalesced together, passing the web with the distributed discrete nodules thereon past heating means to soften them and cause the particles in each cluster to coalesce and for the rounded nodules so formed to adhere to the sheet material to form a layer of discrete nodules and allowing the nodules to cool. Resins employed should coalesce into nodules under a maximum period of heat application of 30 seconds at 200 C.; specified are resins from vinyl compounds of formula CH 2 =CHR, where R is a halogen atom, an aryl radical or an aliphatic acyl radical, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, polyvinylacetate, and natural resins, ethylene polymers, derivatives of cellulose, synthetic or natural rubber, polyamides and polyurethanes. The cluster size may vary from 60-80 B.S. mesh in the fine range to ¢-inch mean diameter in the coarse range. The base fabric may be cotton, tweed, worsted, bonded or felted unwoven fabrics, woven or unwoven glass fabrics, paper, natural or artificial leather. The fabric interlining of the present invention may be laminated to another material by applying the interlining with the nodules against the other material, softening the nodules and applying pressure. Specification 908,217 is referred to.
