[Also in Group II] A liquid sampling device comprises several vessels arranged in cascade and the first vessel 1, when it fills, siphons through a tube 2 into a second vessel 3 connected to a U-tube 4 and the contents of the U-tube are swept through a discharge siphon 10 into a mixing vessel 8. The U-tube is filled through a smallbore tube 5 with liquid flowing in a conduit 6 and the level in the U-tube is determined by an overflow or other device 7 flexibly fitted to the conduit. There may be two or more U-tubes in the cascade if it is desired to mix several liquids in the vessel 8. The vessel 8 may discharge through a siphon 9 to an analysing device. To reduce drainage losses, a piece of small-bore tubing may be fitted in the mouth of the discharge siphon from the U-tube and the bore of the U-tube should not exceed 7 mm. The bore of the tube 5 should not exceed 1.0 mm. and it may be fitted with a non- return valve to prevent reverse flow during siphoning.
