Abstract

907,410. Cores. BENDIX CORPORATION. Oct. 24, 1960, No. 36480/60. Class 83 (1). A perforated tubular core member 10 made of a material with a higher melting point than the cast metal is secured to a sand core 20 or a sandy part of the mould so as to drain gases from the cast metal, e.g. aluminium alloy, into the core or mould. The member 10 may be of copper tubing with a ceramic coating, e.g. alumina and sodium silicate to prevent erosion, and the holes 16 are plugged with shell mould mix to prevent the molten metal flowing into the tube. The tubing is finally removed from the casting by nitric acid.
