Abstract
A surgical dressing comprises a perforated film having a coating of a therapeutic substance. The film is preferably a plasticizer-free polyamide foil and the coating is of a water-soluble substance which may be natural, such as a derivative of alginic acid, or synthetic, such as carboxymethyl cellulose, polyvinyl alcohol or polyvinyl pyrrolidone. The perforations are preferably incisions or fine punctures and allow exudate to pass through to a backing layer of absorbent cellulose. When the dressing is in use the coating on the film dissolves in the exudate and assists healing of the wound.
