Abstract
The invention comprises aryloxy acetic acid amides of the formula <FORM:0906822/IV (b)/1> (wherein R1 is an alkyl, alkenyl or cycloalkyl radical of at most 7 carbon atoms, or a phenyl or benzyl radical which may be substituted by halogen atoms or alkyl or alkoxy groups having at most 4 carbon atoms, R2 is hydrogen or an alkyl or alkenyl radical of at most 4 carbon atoms, R3 is an alkyl radical, R4 is methyl or ethyl and X is a direct link or an ethylene or vinylene group, or wherein the alkyl radicals R1 and R2 can be bound directly to each other or by way of an oxygen atom) and their preparation by reacting an appropriately substituted phenol or a salt thereof with an appropriately substituted haloacetamide, if necessary in presence of an acidbinding agent, or by reacting an appropriately substituted phenoxyacetic acid or a reactive functional derivative thereof with an appropriate primary or secondary amine, or a salt of the acid with a carbaminyl chloride ClCONR1R2. The last named reaction is not applicable to compounds wherein R2 is hydrogen. Examples are given and lists of further suitable reactants are provided.
