Abstract

Thiophenylpyridylamines (also known as 4-azaphenthiazines) of the general formula <FORM:0820525/IV (a)/1> are prepared by reacting compounds of the general formula <FORM:0820525/IV (a)/2> with compounds of the general formula <FORM:0820525/IV (a)/3> preferably at elevated temperature and in the presence of an hydrogen halide acceptor, to split off hydrogen halide and form a compound of the general formula <FORM:0820525/IV (a)/4> and reacting this latter compound with a compound of the general formula <FORM:0820525/IV (a)/5> at elevated temperature and, if desired, at elevated pressure, hydrogen halide being split off; Hal representing a halogen atom, Alk a straight or branched-chain lower alkylene radical with at least 2 carbon atoms, and R1 and R2 alkyl residues which may be linked to form a ring, which ring may also contain a further hetero atom. Examples describe the preparation of N-9-diethyl- and -dimethylaminoethyl-and N - 9 - dimethylaminopropyl - thiophenylpyridylamine and their hydrochlorides.
