Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0829728/IV (b)/1> where R1 and R2 may be the same or different and represent hydrogen atoms or alkyl or hydroxyalkyl radicals of up to 10 carbon atoms or, taken together with -N<, a saturated heterocyclic ring such as pyrrolidine, piperidine, cyclohexylimine, morpholine or piperazine, and Y represents a hydrogen or chlorine atom, or a methyl, methoxy, nitro or phenyl radical in the 2- or 3-position; and acid addition salts thereof, especially penicillinates, fumagillinates, arsonates and arsanilates; and the preparation thereof by condensing a compound of the general formula <FORM:0829728/IV (b)/2> where X is a halogen atom, preferably chlorine, with a compound of the general formula <FORM:0829728/IV (b)/3> or an acid addition salt thereof; and, if desired, converting the products into acid addition salts by customary methods. The products have significant antibacterial and antiparasitic properties. Aminophenols of the general formula III above are prepared by reacting amines of the general formula <FORM:0829728/IV (b)/4> with paraformaldehyde and then with 4-acetylamino phenol followed by hydrolysis.
