Abstract
Compounds of the general formula <FORM:1042191/C2/1> (wherein R and R1 each represent a hydrogen atom or C1-8 alkyl radical, n is 0 or 1, R2 represents a hydrogen atom or C1- 8 alkyl radical, R3 represents a hydrogen atom or C1- 8 alkyl radical or, when R2 is a hydrogen atom, a C1- 8 alkanoyl or phenylcarbamyl radical, and the grouping between the phenyl radical and the oxygen atom contains not less than two carbon atoms) and acid addition salts of those compounds in which R3 is a hydrogen atom or alkyl radical are prepared by heating a compound of the formula <FORM:1042191/C2/2> with an alkali metal hydroxide in an inert solvent at a temperature of 60-140 DEG C., optionally followed by (a) conversion to an N,N-dialkyl derivative and/or salt formation, or (b) acylation. The starting materials may be prepared by reacting hydroxyurethane with the corresponding aralkyl chloride or bromide in the presence of a proton acceptor, optionally followed by N-alkylation. The compounds of the first general formula above have central nervous system activity.
