A swinging half-axle for a motor vehicle comprises an axle tube 11 and differential gear housing 15 mounted upon a common pivot 12 with an axle tube 10 enclosing a drive shaft 17 driven from an output shaft of the differential gear through a universal joint 18 and sliding coupling 19. The shaft 17 is mounted at its outer end in a ball race 16 held in the axle tube 10 by a rubber bush 20 so mounted that it is fixed axially and which serves to take up relative angular displacements occurring between the longitudinal axes of the half shaft and axle tube.
