Abstract

1,004,768. Universal joints. B.R.D. COMPANY Ltd. July 7, 1964 [July 27, 1963], No. 29892/63. Heading F2U. To reduce noise and vibration in operation of a universal joint, for a motor-vehicle steering shaft assembly, of the kind wherein partspherical rollers 13, carried on transverse trunnions 12 fast with a driving shaft 10, are axially slidable in grooves 17 in a housing 16, coupled to the vehicle wheels, the rollers 13 are made either wholly of polyurethane or of polyurethane with a suitable core of silicone rubber. The usual gaiter encloses the joint at one end of the steering shaft assembly, the other end being connected to the drive transmission through the usual Hooke's-type joint 11.
