Abstract

1,020,137. Propeller shaft mounting. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Sept. 9, 1964, No. 36832/64. Heading B7H. A motor vehicle propeller shaft has a forward section 1 extending from the gear-box to which it has a sliding connection including a universal joint, and a rear section 3 connected by a universal joint 5 to the forward section 1 and by a universal joint to the differential gear, the rear end of the forward section 1 being supported by a ball or roller bearing 9 mounted with the interposition of a foamed polyurethane member 13 in a housing 11. The member 13 may have lateral or peripheral slots 21 or 23 to increase its resilience and is bonded to a bearing cover member 15 which fits within C-section annular members 19. The member 13 is slidable within the housing 11.
