A double bridge for measuring a resistance 1 comprises a first automatically balanced bridge including resistors 1, 2, 3, 4 and a second bridge including digital potentiometers 7, 14-17, 14a-17a, the arrangement being that when the first bridge has been balanced by the adjustment of potentiometer 7 by a motor M in response to an unbalance signal from potentiometer 5, switch 9 is switched to connect up the second bridge, a programmer 13 adjusting potentiometers 14-17, 14a-17a for balance, when the setting of these potentiometers will give a numerical indication of the value of resistance 1. A damping resistance 12 is connected across the motor.
