A radioactive thickness measuring gauge of the type including a detector D coupled to a utilization circuit U through an amplifier A and to a balancing voltage source B has a single potentiometer R3 for adjusting both amplifier gain by negative feedback via a resistor R1 and effective balancing voltage via a resistor R2, The potentiometer may be a combination of fixed and variable series and shunt elements, for varying the range of control.
