[Also in Group XXVI] In an electric motor driven centrifugal pump wherein the pump impeller 2 and motor rotor 3 are mounted on a common shaft 1 and the motor stator 6 is isolated from the rotating parts by a gap tube 7 into which the liquid being pumped may enter, the gap tube at a position between the rotor and impeller is substantially enlarged in diameter relative to that of the stator bore in order to provide a space 9 into which are deposited foreign bodies conveyed by the liquid, and the tube has assembled to it a separate end wall 13 disposed adjacent the impeller and through which the shaft extends as a close fit. The wall 13 has apertures 14 which admit the liquid to the rotor chamber, and a flange which is telescoped into the gap tube enlargement. The shaft bearing 18 at the motor end 5 is received in a bearing carrier 17 pressed into the gap tube and of a material having an equal or greater coefficient of expansion than that of the gap tube. The carrier has openings and distance-pieces 23 to permit flushing the bearing.
