Abstract

904,076. Explosives. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. Nov. 4, 1960 [Nov. 20, 1959], No. 38047/60. Class 9 (2). Explosives containing a major proportion of an alkali metal nitrate are waterproofed and rendered more sensitive by adding at least one of the following paraffin derivatives: (a) a long chain aliphatic amine having from 9 to 21 carbon atoms. (b) CH 3 (CH 2 ) m (CHX) n COOM, where m is 4-10, n is 4-10, X is halogen and m is a metal. (c) CH 3 (CH 2 ) p NHR where p is 10-20 and R is an aromatic amine residue, benzoyl, naphthoyl, mono-, di- or trinitrobenzoyl, nitronaphthoyl, phenyl, mono-, di-, or trinitrobenzoyl, nitronaphthoyl, pheny, mono-, di-, or trinitrophenyl, naphthyl, nitronaphthyl, pyridyl, phenoxy, mono-, di- or trinitrophenoxy, naphthoxy, or mono-, di- or trinitronaphthoxy group. (d) CH 3 (CH 2 ) p COR where p and R have the same meaning as in (c). CH 2 COO /\ (e) CH 3 (CH 2 ) P N Ca where p is \ CH 2 COO / 10 to 20. (f) CH 3 (CH 2 ) p NH 3 R 1 where p is 10 to 20 and R 1 is a benzoate, trinitrobenzoate, phenolate, picrate, acetate, nitrate or chloride anion or a nitrotrimethylolmethane-boric acid or tetramethylolmethane-boric acid. (g) CH 3 (CH 2 ) p COOR 2 where p is 10 to 20 and R 2 is an aliphatic or aromatic ammonium cation or a pyridium cation. Specified compounds are stearylamine trinitrobenzoate, the mixed calcium and zinc salt of chlorinated stearic acid, stearylamine benzoate, stearylamine phenolate, stearylamine acetate, stearylamine nitrate, stearylamine hydrochloride, pyridyl stearate, N-2,4,6-trinitrophenyl stearylamine, stearic acid anilide, calcium alkyl (C 18 )-iminodiacetate, nitrotrimethylolmethane boric acid-stearylamine product, tetramethylolmethane-boric acid-stearylamine, stearylamine gluconate, -stearylamine sulphophenolate, stearylamine benzenesulphonate, and p-nitrophenyl ester of stearic acid. The alkali metal nitrates may be sodium nitrate or potassium nitrate and alumina, collodion wool, guer meal, ammonium chloride, tetryl, nitroglycerine, nitroglycol, acetone, trinitrotoluene, and "Aerosil" (Registered Trade Mark) may also be added.
