Abstract
Procedure for preparing pyrazolium salts, of formula: **(See formula)** where R1 and R2 each represent lower alkyl groups having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; X represents an anion having a charge of 1 to 3; Y, Y', Z, Z' each independently represents a member chosen from the group consisting of hydrogen, nitro, C1-C4 alkyl, halo C1-C4 alkyl; C1-C4 alkoxy; and m is an integer chosen from 1, 2 and 3; under the condition that X-m is not I-1, ClO4-1 or Cl-1 when Y, Z, Y'and Z' are hydrogen and R1 and R2 are methyl; characterized in that it comprises the steps of: (a) reacting a ketone of the formula: **(See formula)** wherein Y, Y'and Z' are defined as above with a compound of the formula: RHHNH2 wherein R is hydrogen or lower alkyl, to form the corresponding 3,5-diphenylpyrazole; and (b) when R is lower alkyl, reacting said pyrazole with an equimolar amount of an alkylating agent to form the corresponding pyrazolium salt; or (c) when R is hydrogen, react simultaneously or consecutively said pyrazole with two alkylating agents, to form the corresponding pyrazolium salt.
