Procedure for obtaining pyrazolium compounds of formula I: **(See formula)** wherein R1 and R2 each represent C1-C4 alkyl; R3 represents a member selected from the group consisting of C3-C7 cycloalkylmethyl, C3-C7 cycloalkyl, methyl substituted C3-C7 cycloalkyl, C3-C7 cycloalkynyl, methyl substituted C3-C7 cycloalkenyl, (see formula), and C2-C11 alkyl; R4 represents a member selected from the group consisting of C3-C7 cycloalkylmethyl, C3-C7 cycloalkyl, methyl substituted C3-C7 cycloalkyl, C3-C7 cycloalkenyl, methyl substituted C3-C7 cycloalkenyl, alkyl of (see formula); Y, Y', Z and Z' each represent members selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, nitro, halogen, methylthio, methylsulfonyl, cyano, carboxyl, C1-C4 carboalkoxy, C1-C4 alkyl, C1-C4 haloalkyl containing from 1 to 4 halogen and C1-C4 alkoxy groups; X represents an anion with a charge of 1 to 3; n is 0 or 1 and m is an integer from 1 to 3, characterized by the reaction of a diketone of the formula: **(See formula)** with a hydrazine of the formula: RNHNH2 to form a pyrazole which is alkylated to form the pyrazolium salt of formula I; where R is hydrogen or C1-C4 alkyl; R1, R2, R3, R4, X and m are as defined in this claim 1 and further characterized in that the reaction of said diketone is carried out at a temperature between 70 and 150ºC in a protic or aprotic solvent and where the Alkylation is carried out at a temperature between 50 and 200ºC.
