Abstract
A catalyst solution comprising cuprous chloride, used in the production of acrylonitrile from C2H2 and HCN, is regenerated by contacting the catalyst liquid in fine dispersion with hot gases (e.g. by spray-drying) and adding solvent to the resultant dry salt. The method may be applied to a continuous process by continuously withdrawing and regenerating a portion of catalyst. The catalyst specified contained the chlorides of copper, potassium, sodium and cobalt, and HCl; ammonium chloride is also mentioned as a catalyst constituent.
