Abstract

903,239. Automatic tension control systems. INSTITUT FUR SCHIFFBAU. Nov. 11, 1959, No. 38234/59. Class 38 (4). The tension in a cable 5 for a hoist subject to a varying load is measured by a spring 7 which supports the load and any alteration in the equilibrium is transmitted by way of a roller 8 to a control system constituted by field setters 9 to 13 whereby a signal derived from the system is fed into a magnetic amplifier 21 which energizes the field system of a Ward-Leonard amplidyne generator 1 supplying the hoist motor 2 in proportion to the varying force on the spring so that the cable tension is maintained constant. The field setters comprise receivers and transmitters each having the same construction, viz. a single phase rotor and a three phase stator.
